XX Helsinki Samba Carnaval in June 11th-12th, 2010

    This year Helsinki Samba Carnaval celebrates it´s 20th anniversary!

    Traditionally the Helsinki Samba Carnaval -festival is a Rio-style parade, a competition between samba schools in Finland. Instead of having a competition, this year all the seven schools are creating one big parade togehter. Last time when samba schools made a parade in co-operation was 15 years ago in 1995.

    The theme of the parade is "The history of samba". This theme was selected by election in samba schools last autumn. Also the song, samba de enredo, which will be played through the wohle parade was chosen by voting.

    The spring has been full of samba as all the schools have been working hard for the Carneval. The Association of Finnish Samba Schools (SSKL) has organised workshops for different sambistas: for baianas, passistas, and porta-bandeiras and mestre-salas and for bateria (the percussion group).

    There will be several samba-events during the festival (chek below). The spectacle on Saturday 12th June will be magnificant, as the parade of 600 dancers with brilliant costumes and the rythm of the percussion group will take over the Helsinki Esplanade. Come, see and enjoy and feel the rhytm of Samba!
